Get Your Dental Implants From a True Expert

dental implantsIf you have missing teeth, you might be thinking about getting dental implants. These marvels of modern dentistry can renew your smile and bring back your confidence! However, it’s wise to keep in mind that placing and restoring implants is a delicate process — one that you should only entrust to a true expert. Here are some tips on how to find a dental care professional who is qualified to help you reap all the benefits that implants have to offer.

Look for Someone Who Can Be With You From Beginning to End

The dental implant process involves two main stages: placement and restoration. During the placement phase, a dentist inserts the implants into your jaw. During restoration, a dentist designs and attaches your new teeth to the implants. It isn’t uncommon for these steps to be performed by two different dentists.

However, many people are more comfortable if the same person stays with them throughout both stages of their implant journey. Not only is this more convenient than going to separate practices, but it can also increase your peace of mind. After all, the better you know the person who is working on your mouth, the more confidence you can have in their ability. It’s especially great if your regular dentist is able to place and restore your implants since you’ve already established a trusting relationship with them.

Consider Credentials and Technology

Of course, you don’t want to choose a dentist based solely on the fact that they both place and restore implants. A little research is in order.

  • What sort of technology does the dentist use? If a dentist utilizes advanced imaging technology and plans surgery with state of the art computer assistance, you can be confident that your risk of complications will be as low as possible.
  • What credentials does the dentist have? Some dentists maintain an active membership with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, an organization that seeks to educate and inspire dental professionals who place and/or restore implants.
  • How much experience does the dentist have? It’s okay to ask a dentist how much experience they have with cases that are similar to yours.

Open Communication Is Important

Try to find a dentist with whom you feel comfortable. Do they take the time to answer your questions? Do they just seem like they’re selling a service, or are they truly concerned about your needs as an individual? Do they explain things in a way that is easy for you to understand?

If you are going to use your regular dentist to perform your implant procedure, you already know their communication style, and hopefully, you feel at ease with them. However, if you are going to find another expert to restore your smile, it’s important that you take the time to get to know them a bit and make sure you truly feel that they’re the best person for the job.

Whether you are looking to replace one teeth or many, choose a trustworthy and well-qualified implant expert who can perform your procedure from beginning to end.
