One or more missing teeth can affect the appearance and functionality of your smile. Nearly all of us have lost teeth at some point during our lives. It happens, but it isn’t the end of the road. At Amberly Dental, Dr. Tim Vacek can create a dental crown or fixed bridge to restore your smile to where it needs to be – bright and beautiful. A bridge not only fills the gap, but it also prevents repositioning of remaining teeth. It can also correct a misaligned bite, improve chewing function and speech articulation, and provide internal structure for the face to give you a more youthful appearance. No matter what type of bridge you opt for, the restoration will have significant aesthetic and practical benefits. The new teeth will restore dental functionality and oral health. Also, thanks to new dental technology and aesthetic advances, today’s dental bridges are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth. What better time to show off that new and beautiful smile than now?
What is a Fixed Bridge?
Before learning how a fixed bridge works, what exactly is a bridge? A bridge is a prosthetic tooth (or teeth) that attaches on one or both sides to teeth prepared with dental crowns. A fixed bridge is joined onto the neighboring abutment teeth (crowned teeth) and consists of three basic units: the false tooth or teeth (called a pontic) and two abutment crowns. If healthy adjacent abutment teeth aren’t available, a surgically-implanted metal post, known as a dental implant, may offer a solid alternative. For a bridge that replaces many teeth, we may recommend a removable partial denture or implant-supported prosthesis.
Are there benefits to having a dental bridge? You bet!
• They can restore your smile
• Your ability to properly chew and speak is greatly increased
• Your face maintains its shape
• The forces in your bite are properly distributed
• Remaining teeth will stay affixed without drifting out of position
No matter what type of bridge a patients, the restoration will have significant aesthetic and practical benefits. The new teeth will restore dental functionality and oral health. Additionally, thanks to new dental technology and aesthetic advances, today’s dental bridges are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.
