What is a Dental Crown?
When your tooth sustains an injury or fracture that is more than a dental filling can repair, Dr. Vacek will recommend a dental crown for you. A crown is designed to replace your entire tooth structure, while protecting the integrity of your root. It fits over your remaining tooth, and provides all the same function you had with your natural tooth. It’s also customized to match your teeth so it’s aesthetically pleasing to your smile.
The Crown Process
The process to complete a dental crown used to be quite lengthy. It required at least two long visits, and wearing a temporary crown for 2-4 weeks while your final restoration was completed at a dental laboratory. Some patients experienced difficulties with the temporary crown breaking or falling off, which would mean additional visits to replace it.
Dr. Vacek is proud to offer CEREC technology at Amberly Dental, which allows us to design, fabricate, and place your dental crown during one short visit at our office. CEREC utilizes 3D technology to scan an image of your tooth, which Dr. Vacek uses to design your restoration. The image is then sent directly to our milling machine, which uses high quality porcelain to mill your crown while you wait. Dr. Vacek can then place your crown and ensure a proper fit, so you’ll leave our office the same day with a beautiful and functional new tooth!
